BIOGRAPHYMadison Pickering is the recent graduate of Ball State University, where they graduated with a BA in Theater Production with a concentration in Directing. Her current interests lie in immersive theatrical experiences, which she believes is the best way to actively engage communities in theatre. Their degree culminated in the creation of their capstone - The Eyewitness Project and the Importance of Immersive Theatre - a video essay documenting the process of creating live-action immersive events for a journalism class studying the dangers of eyewitness reports.
Currently, Pickering is fulfilling her Fulbright grant in Hlohovec, Slovakia. She works as an English Teaching Assistant, and will remain in Slovakia through June 2024. This is their first time out of the country, and they are learning so much about living independently and how other cultures live. The Fulbright Program is an international cultural exchange program that seeks to increase mutual understanding between countries. ETAs act as cultural ambassadors in their communities, and receiving the award is a great honor. In 2020, Pickering co-founded her Women with Words podcast along with former co-founder, Grace Johnson. The podcast now invites guest artists to talk about their art in relation to television. Notable guests include: progressive Christian youtuber, God is Grey, musician Chappell Roan, and theatre artist Joel Kirk. Season 3 will feature Slovak artists (including former Fulbrighters) and will release in the spring of 2024.
