La épéiste
The Spring semester of my Sophomore year (2021), I was chosen to be a part of our experimental collaborations class with faculty Matthew Reeder, Kathryn Rohe, and Tony-Award winning composer Jeanine Tesori. The class description can be found to the right. I was the Team 2 director, and our 20-minute original musical is entitled La Epeiste.
This show tells the story of real-life opera singer and swordfighter, Julie d'Aubigny. In our narrative, Julie's story is taken from her by fanatic follower, Prince Philippe. Julie must fight to win back her own narrative, as well as relive her past heartbreak with the kind-hearted Sylvie. This was my first time directing anything larger than a 10-minute play, and my very first time developing a musical. The process was challenging and extremely rewarding, and I'd love to go back to revisit Julie's life somewhere in the future! |
THEA 299x: Musical Collaboration, is a cross-disciplinary, immersive-style course where you will explore and undertake the challenges and rewards of collaborative creation under the guidance of faculty and guest artists.
Across the semester, you will work together with a creative team to conceive, write, compose, direct and perform two original pieces of musical theatre. Under the guidance of Tony-Award winning composer Jeanine Tesori, this class explores the process and function of collaboration as artists work together to bring new musicals to life. |
